North Broward School

Founded in 1957, North Broward Preparatory School is a PK–12 private, day and boarding co-educational college-preparatory school. The school has accreditation by the Florida Kindergarten Council and Florida Council of Independent Schools. North Broward School is a member of the Southern Association of Independent Schools and International Baccalaureate. The campus of North Broward School is in Coconut Creek. It spans nearly 0.32 km2 and includes an upper, middle, and lower school. The city is named after the coconut trees that were planted in the area by early settlers. Coconut Creek is also nicknamed Butterfly Capital of the World since it hosts the world’s biggest butterfly aviary with over 80 species and 20,000 individual butterflies.

School’s Facilities

North Broward School has 21 buildings on campus, including the spaces for robotics and design, Lower School STEAM Room, Upper School Robotics Classroom, and Upper School Fabrication Lab. The learning commons library of North Broward School offers 20,000 physical books, access to nearly 100,000 ebooks and audiobooks, as well as 24/7 access to the virtual library.

In 2018, North Broward School opened a 500-student residential village. Students of grades 6–12 live on single-gender floors with a double occupancy system. Each dormitory area has a study area, common area, kitchen, and Internet. Dormitories are supervised by staff members who live in residence. Also, professional security systems are used to ensure students’ safety.

Equipped with ten private music lesson studios, multiple music ensemble rehearsal rooms, two Piano Labs, three Dance Studios, four Visual Art Studios, and three Media Arts Labs, Broward School offers an award-winning Fine and Performing Arts program. North Broward School is a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association. Students can compete in 14 sports at multiple levels of competition and ability. They include cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, swimming, volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, track and field, softball, tennis, and ice hockey. To support the achievements of the students, North Broward School has the Global Wellness Center, fitness center, tennis courts, baseball field, softball field, two full-size basketball and volleyball gymnasiums, multipurpose turf field, and three swimming pools.

As a rule, international students apply to high school. They can choose from over 180 courses, 34 honors courses, 14 Advanced Placement courses, and 25 International Baccalaureate Courses. It gives students knowledge and skills to tackle real-world challenges and develop flexibility, creativity, and communication. In collaboration with MIT, international students learn how to work together and foster critical thinking skills.

The Advanced Placement Program at North Broward School offers the equivalent of a one-semester university-level course for high school international students. Many top-tier US universities reward the successful completion of an Advanced Placement course with exemptions from introductory-level classes or credits toward graduation.

Admission Requirements

To apply to the North Broward School, international students ought to follow several steps.

  1. They should submit the admission application.
  2. International students need to complete the Upper School Admission Application Supplement Form.
  3. They ought to submit two teacher recommendations. Recommendations from a Math teacher and English teacher are highly recommended.
  4. International students must submit all grade 9 and above academic transcripts, including the current school year semester grades or course list if the prospective students apply for grade 11 or 12.
  5. Since students ought to have an F1 visa to study in the US, they should provide a copy of their passport and a financial statement reflecting available funds to cover the cost of attendance. It is a required step for North Broward School to issue the student’s I-20.
